Harvest Lab Technician

A winery in Prosser, WA has an immediate need for a temporary Harvest Lab Technician. The position will last 2 to 3 months and will require some laboratory experience. The ideal candidate can work weekends and be very flexible in terms of hours. Duties include but are not limited to;  Perform wet chemistry analysis on wine, juice, and grape samples according to approved standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Qualifications:
AA degree in science/technical discipline, i.e, chemistry, bio-chemistry, agricultural science or 4 semesters of college level coursework in the above disciplines. Able to operate basic lab instruments and equipment Basic math. Able to perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting. Able to lift up to 50 lbs, work in one place for long periods of time and work extended hours and/or shift work during the harvest peak season.

Location: 
School of Food Science, Washington State University, Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center, Prosser, WA.  Prosser is located in south central Washington in the heart of the wine and fruit growing region. 

Major responsibilities:
The Ringer Lab at WSU-Prosser, WA is a small laboratory conducting research on the aroma and antioxidant components of grapes, wine, berries; and food manufacturing focusing on dehydration of fruit products into powders for the nutritional supplement industry.  The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting independent research, analytical method development, general lab organization, purchasing supplies, inventory tracking, troubleshooting laboratory equipment, and assisting post doctorates and graduate students in research.

Qualifications:
A Master’s degree in Food Science or related field is required.  The candidate must have experience with GC / GC-MS, HPLC, and spectrophotometric equipment and methods.  We are seeking someone that is very organized, can work and conduct research independently, keep accurate and detailed lab notebooks, and communicate research results in both an oral and written format in meetings and lab presentations.  The ability to multi-task is essential as the individual will have a diverse set of responsibilities.  The candidate must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel within the Pacific Northwest.
